The Wellington Hospital – North Building
St Johns Wood
The Outpatient Hydrotherapy service offers one-to-one sessions for treatment of musculoskeletal conditions/injuries with our specially trained Senior Hydrotherapists.
Hydrotherapy utilises the physiological effects of immersion in water and the properties of water to facilitate movement, strengthen muscles, challenge stability and balance, and aid in relaxation and pain relief. Hydrotherapy provides the opportune environment for many patients to move in a way that may otherwise be restricted on land. Therefore it can benefit people with orthopaedic/musculoskeletal conditions such as osteoarthritis, total joint replacement, fractures, back pain as well as reduced balance and fitness.
All patients receive a land based assessment prior to starting hydrotherapy treatment to preclude any precautions and to identify objective markers.
The Hydrotherapy department at The Wellington Hospital strives to provide an efficient and effective service.
Physiotherapy Assistants are poolside throughout the treatment session to assist patients in and out of the pool and help as needed. Entry to the pool is via steps or by hoist for less mobile patients.
