Mr Matthew John Sala Consultant: Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon QUALIFICATIONS: MB ChB CAREER SUMMARY: Mr Matthew Sala is a Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon, specialising in the treatment of shoulder and upper limb conditions and sporting injuries of the shoulder and knee including the management of complex fractures and soft tissue injuries. He studied medicine at the University of Liverpool Medical School. Already committed to a career in orthopaedic medicine, he obtained the qualification of FRCS in 1990 and was appointed as Orthopaedic Registrar on the North Thames rotation including University College Hospital, and Hammersmith and Charing Cross Hospitals. He was awarded the qualification FRCS (Orth) in 1997; and the CCST in1999. On the completion of these appointments, he was granted the prestigious clinical fellowship based at the University of Toronto and St Michael’s Hospital, Toronto, Canada, in complex shoulder surgery and upper limb trauma. As part of this fellowship he travelled to the Upper Limb and Hand Unit, London, Ontario, the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston and the Hospital for Special Surgery, New York City. On his return, he was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon at Northwick Park and Central Middlesex Hospitals (NWLHT) and has held this post for the past 9 years. He is the Clinical Lead in Shoulder Surgery for the North West London Hospitals Group, offering advice and support to other orthopaedic surgeons about the management of complex upper limb conditions and injuries. Academically, he holds the post of Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College School at Medicine. His Work has helped pioneer minimally invasive and arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery in the upper limb and he performs more than 80% of all soft tissue repairs in this way. Selected to provide Specialist Upper Limb and Shoulder surgical opinion and treatment for the London 2012 Olympics Mr Sala runs established private practices at the Clemenitine Churchill Hospital, Harrow; the Princess Grace Hospital, nr Harley Street; and Trust Plus at Northwick Park Hospital working with a team of Specialised Physiotherapists and Osteopaths in central and N.W. London.
